In a distant forest, there was an old plane tree that stretched towards the sky. On the highest branch of this tree lived a small, yellow-feathered bird. Its name was Cikcik. Cikcik had a beautiful voice; it chirped in the mornings, brightening the whole forest. But Cikcik had a little secret: it didn’t know how to fly yet.
Every day, his mother and father showed him how to flap his wings.
“Your wings are strong, your heart is brave,” his mother would say.
“Falling is part of learning,” his father would say.
Cikcik knew how to hop between the branches, but soaring towards the sky was terrifying to him. Everything looked so small when he looked down. “What if I fall?” he thought.
One morning, a gentle breeze came through the forest. The wind whispered, as if speaking to the leaves,
“Courage is not the absence of fear; it is trying despite fear.”
Just then, an old turtle passed under the tree. The turtle was walking slowly. Chirp called down:
“Isn’t it hard to be so slow?”
The turtle smiled:
“I may be slow, but I take one step every day. That way I can overcome even the most difficult paths.”
Cikcik thought to himself, “Maybe I can try a little experiment too.” First, he landed on the lowest branch. He gently flapped his wings. He made a small jump… and landed back on the branch.
“I did it!” he exclaimed in astonishment.
Then, gathering a little more courage, he tried a little higher. He flapped his wings more forcefully. The wind carried him gently. For a moment, he was suspended in the air! His heart was pounding, but it wasn’t fear, it was excitement.
On her third attempt, Cikcik didn’t close her eyes. She looked up at the sky. “I can do it,” she said. She spread her wings, felt the wind, and let herself fall into the void.
This time it didn’t fall. It flew!
As it glided over the forest, the trees seemed to wave at it. The turtle looked up and nodded. Its mother and father chirped proudly.
That day, Cikcik learned something important:
Courage isn’t about never being afraid; it’s about trying even when you’re afraid.
And every great achievement begins with a small attempt.
From that day on, Cikcik inspired the forest not only with her beautiful voice but also with her courage.
