Once upon a time, in a wide golden savanna, there lived a young lion named Kito. Kito was strong and fast, just like the other lions—but there was one problem. He didn’t know how to listen.
When the wind rustled the grass, Kito ignored it.
When the birds flew suddenly into the sky, Kito didn’t notice.
And when the river changed its sound, Kito never paid attention.
One hot afternoon, Kito went to the river to drink. The river looked calm, but beneath the surface, the water was moving quickly. An old tortoise named Miro sat quietly nearby.
“Be careful,” Miro said slowly. “The river is speaking today.”
Kito laughed. “Rivers don’t speak. They’re just water!”
He stepped in without thinking. Suddenly, the current pulled his paws, and he slipped. Splash! The water rushed around him, and for a moment, Kito felt scared.
He quickly jumped back to the shore, soaking wet.
Miro looked at him kindly. “The river told you it was strong today. You just didn’t listen.”
Kito shook his mane. “But… how can water talk?”
Miro smiled. “Everything in nature speaks—if you learn how to listen.”
From that day on, Kito became curious. He began to watch, listen, and think.
He noticed that:
When the river made a loud rushing sound, it meant danger.
When birds suddenly flew away, something unusual was nearby.
When the wind changed direction, rain might be coming.
Day by day, Kito learned something new.
One evening, dark clouds gathered. The other young animals kept playing, but Kito noticed the strong wind and the restless river.
“A storm is coming,” he warned.
At first, no one believed him. But Miro nodded. “Kito is right. We must find shelter.”
Soon, heavy rain poured down, and the river swelled. Thanks to Kito’s warning, the animals were safe.
From that day on, Kito was no longer known as the lion who didn’t listen. He became known as Kito, the Lion Who Could Read the River.
And whenever young animals asked him his secret, he would say:
“Strength is important… but listening makes you wise.”
