Once upon a time…
in a faraway, lush green valley, there flowed a sparkling river called Maviçay . Among the ducks living on the banks of this river, everyone felt a little sorry for this duck. Because this duck couldn’t fly .
His name was Lazy , but he wasn’t lazy at all. His wings weren’t as strong as the other ducks’, and no matter how hard he flapped them, he couldn’t take flight. While the other ducks soared in the sky, Lazy watched from below, thinking to himself:
“I wish I could fly too…” he would say.
One day, great news spread through the valley. The Golden Lake
beyond the mountain was about to disappear due to drought. If the lake wasn’t saved, the animals there would die of thirst. The Wise Turtle said:
“We need to bring clean water from the river to the Golden Lake. But the only way to get there is through a narrow underground tunnel behind the mountain .”
All the animals had gathered. The eagles were too big, the deer wouldn’t fit, and the rabbits were afraid of the dark. No one dared to enter the tunnel.
Just then, Miskin stepped forward.
“I can try,” he said.
Everyone was surprised.
“But you can’t fly!” they said.
The lazy one smiled:“I can’t fly, but I know how to pass through narrow spaces , how to listen , and how to be patient .”
The lazy fellow entered the tunnel. In the darkness, he listened to the sound of the water to find his way and carefully stepped on the stones. He was tired but did not give up. Hours later, he reached the other end of the tunnel and cleared a path for the water.
And then…
the Golden Lake began to fill again!
The animals shrieked with joy, and the birds sang.
From that day on, no one called Miskin “the duck that couldn’t fly.” They called him “the Impossibly Lucky Duck . “
The Wise Turtle concluded the fable with these words:
“Luck doesn’t always fall from the sky. Sometimes, it’s hidden in the hearts of those who don’t give up.”
And what about Lazy?
He still can’t fly…
But now he believes in himself .
